About Us

Sri Lanka produces the best quality spices with exceptional aroma and taste and occupies a prominent place in the world spice trade not only now but in historical times dates back to early times where Arabs monopolized and run the trade. Because of this prestigious position Sri Lanka became attractive and famous in the western world.

The Spices and Allied Products Marketing Board was established under the special provision of Agricultural Act of 1972 and and by special gazette notification no. 2050/14 dated 20^th December 2017, this was placed under the Ministry of Primary Industries.

Again on 13^th January 2020 by special gazette notification no 2158/3, this was placed under the State Ministry of Export Agriculture.

The present Spices and Allied Products Marketing Board was re-established by a Cabinet paper no. 20/1590/326/014 on 10^th November 2020 and is operating to date.
